THE Zimbabwe Netball Association (ZINA) on Friday welcomed the birth of a professional netball league, the Premier Netball League describing it as a victory for the girl child.
ZINA President Letitia Chipandu said her association stands ready to work with the new League to advance netball interests in the country.
“Today (Friday), it gives me great pleasure to stand before each one of you as a community of netball lovers. Women and men who love netball and only want to see the girls play the sport they love. Today netball wins. Today sees the culmination of months of negotiations to bring together the creme Dela Creme of Zimbabwean netball clubs. Clubs that have stood the test of time and have always spoke, slept, ate and played netball,” Chipandu said during the launch held at the National Ballet Centre in Belgravia, Harare.
“Today, we see the birth of an elite Netball league that will push for the right to play for every girl who wants a shot at playing for Zimbabwe at major international Netball competitions. As you know, only players affiliated with the Zimbabwe Netball Association can be selected at such competitions to represent their country, Zimbabwe. This is why we are so excited to be here and endorse this launch which has our full support.
“To the Leadership of NPL, I would like to assure you that you have our support. We stand with you to develop and grow netball, nurture talent and compete with International best practices promoted by the World Netball.
“We wish you nothing but the best.. We look forward to working with you. May God bless you, and may God bless your League.”
