THE Zimbabwe Under-20 rugby national side qualified for the Junior World Trophy (JWT) after dismissing Tunisia 60-6 in Nairobi, Kenya, on Wednesday.
The young Sable’s victory over the North Africans in this semi-final clash booked them a place in Sunday’s U20 Barthes Trophy final against Kenya, who earlier qualified for the JWT as the hosts.
The two finalists will represent Africa in the second-tier junior rugby world championships.
Zimbabwe will be in pool A alongside Scotland, Uruguay, Canada, or the USA.
Spain, Samoa, Hong Kong and hosts Kenya make up the JWT Pool B lineup.
The Shaun De Souza-coached side will return in Nairobi in three months
for the JWT finals, which will run from 15-30 July.
But before the JWT, the Young Sables will look to defend their Under-20 Barthes crown when they face Kenya on Sunday.
Buoyed by ten tries, they ran past Tunisia. Zimbabwe will feel confident when they face the hosts who defeated the much fancied Namibia in the other semi-final.
Brendan Marume, who had an off-day from the kicking tee, will have to improve if the Zimbabwe Under-20 side hopes to upstage the young Kenyans, who a boisterous crowd will back.
