Zimbabwe Trio Among Southern Africa’s Best Chess Players
Three Zimbabwean chess players emerged among Southern Africa finest in the just ended Zone 4.5 online tournament.
The event had one hundred and twenty-one participants.
Among these players were four International Masters, four Women International Masters, 13 Candidate Masters, five Fide Masters, and six Women Fide Masters.
Cyril Chigodo of Zimbabwe produced one of his finest performances. He finished with six points after losing his first game against Gomelelo of Botswana. Among his victims was Zambian Candidate Master Musatwe Simutowe, brother to Southern Africa’s first Grand Master Amon Simutowe.
Woman Candidate Master Kudzanai Charinda finished the tournament undefeated and emerged the best player in the board four-category as she won five games and drew two games.
The third-best player from Zimbabwe was Woman Candidate Master Refiloe Mudodo, who delivered a brilliant performance in most of her matches to finish with six points out of a possible of seven.
