Zimbabwe seek to bounce back

ZIMBABWE Women’s cricket team are looking to bounce back from the disappointing defeat against Thailand when the two teams square off in the third unofficial One Day International at Takashinga Cricket Club in Highfield, Harare, on Sunday.

The Lady Chevrons fell short of Thailand’s total to lose the second match by 22 runs on Friday.

Mary-Anne Musonda led from the front with a half-century while all-rounder Josephine Nkomo claimed a fiver. However, their efforts were in vain as Thailand bowlers led by spinners spun the ball to perfection as the hosts failed the spin test.

Zimbabwe women’s cricket Head Coach Adam Chifo conceded it was uncharacteristic of the girls as they let go of clear dismissal chances.

“We didn’t apply ourselves well, dropped four catches on the field and we faced too many dots while batting,” Chifo told EnterSportNews.

“It was indeed a bad day in the office but we know we are a better team than we did in the last match. We will definitely rise up again.”

Unlike in the first match, the Lady Chevrons won by an emphatic seven wickets. On Friday, Thailand captain Naruemol Chaiwai won the toss and elected to bat.

She chipped in with 28 runs batting at the top of the order while Wongpaka Liengprasert (51), Natthakan Chantham (42) and Chanida Sutthiruang (25) ensured the visitors reach 229/9.

Zimbabwe ran out of overs as they closed on 207/9, with Nkomo (38) and Ashley Ndiraya (31) weighing in the second and third highest scores by the locals, albeit in defeat.

Should we choose to be superstitious if the matches played so far are anything to go by, then whoever wins the toss tomorrow will carry the day with a victory, but for now, these can only remain mere superstitions?
