Zimbabwe Gems Rev Up for Intense Training Camp Ahead of Netball World Cup

THE Zimbabwe Netball team trooped into camp at Girls High School in the capital for the final phase of preparations for the World Cup.

Vitality Netball World Cup is scheduled for Cape town, South Africa, from 28 July to 6 August.

This will be the Gems’ successive appearance at the global netball showcase following their participation at the last edition held in Liverpool, UK, in 2019.

Zimbabwe finished a commendable eighth on their maiden appearance behind Uganda (7), Malawi (6) and South Africa (4) as Africa gave a good account of themselves. New Zealand won the Cup, while Australia and England finished second and third, respectively.

Gems spokesperson Maimba Mapuranga shared that a 29-member squad will battle it out for the national team.

Zimbabwe Netball Association President Letitia Chipandu confirmed camp resumed.

“The team is getting into camp today (Sunday) at Girls High. They will be in camp up to departure day on 20 July,” she told EnterSportNews.

“Players will be screened to 15.”

The Gems, in April, welcomed on board leading financial institution Nedbank Zimbabwe and unveiled a $US50 000 sponsorship deal for the forthcoming World Cup.
