ZC Pays Tribute to Streak

ZIMBABWE Cricket (ZC) board chairman, Tavengwa Mukhulani, who was re-elected for a third term on Saturday in Bulawayo, has paid tribute to former Zimbabwe captain and coach Heath Streak after losing his battle with colon and liver cancer in the early hours of Sunday.

Streak played 244 international matches for Zimbabwe in red-ball and white-ball cricket, taking 455 wickets in a distinguished career.

He was no mug with the bat, scoring 4 933 international runs, including a Test century against West Indies. His highest ODI score of 79 not out led Zimbabwe to a rare 2-1 series victory away to New Zealand in 2001.

The Zimbabwe record wicket-taker was appointed head coach between 2016 and 2018 before he was fired with his entire technical team by the ZC board after Zimbabwe failed to qualify for the 2019 World Cup, which was held in England.

One of his coaching career highlights was in 2017 when Zimbabwe beat Sri Lanka 3-2 in an ODI series, their first away series victory over a full member in 16 years.
