Warriors fall to Brave Warriors

ZIMBABWE Warriors’ hunt for a semifinal berth in this year’s edition of the Cosafa Cup looks slim after losing 2-0 to Namibia in their third match of the campaign at the Nelson Mandela Bay, Port Elizabeth in South Africa this afternoon.

A 70-minute own goal from Zimbabwe defender Qadar Amini and forward Elmo Kambindu’s goal after 86 minutes was enough to give Namibia the maximum points.

Mozambique are in the second position with four points from three matches after seeing off Malawi 2-0 in a late kickoff. With three points from two matches, Senegal are in third place while the Warriors are staring down the barrel on two points from the matches, a point above bottom-placed Malawi, who have played two games.

Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic has refused to throw in the towel even in the face of potential elimination.

“In the first half, we were equal, and in the second half, we were dominating, but we didn’t use our domination to our advantage,” Logarusic said after the match.

“I’m happy with the boys. Most of them are young guys; let’s see what happens in the last game. You never know results may go our way. In Africa, everything can happen.”

Zimbabwe opened their campaign with a goalless draw against Mozambique before playing out two a 2-2 draw coming from two goals down in their second match against Malawi.
