Wadiwa Wepa Moyo Season 3 Hangs in the Balance
POPULAR online drama series Wadiwa Wepa Moyo Season 3 hangs in the balance due to lack of funding, EnterSportNews reveals.
The much-anticipated next season has temporarily been put on hold. At the same time, the producers of the much-famed drama hinted that they are occupied with another drama series, Blue Roof Season 2.
Having premiered in 2020, Blue Roof is a production that explores college life and highlights the impact of names in Zimbabwean society.
“We are currently working on Blue Roof Season 2, so Wadiwa Wepa Moyo is definitely not the next project,” Kudakwashe Jani, Head of Production for College Central, told EnterSportNews.
“However, we plan to start working on it later in the year. Our biggest challenge is financial support.”
Wadiwa Wepa Moyo made its debut in 2020 and attracted a lot of online attention in just a few days.
According to the drama storyline, two boys from the dusty streets of Harare, Tawanda (Man Tawa) and Biko, have a dream of making it to play for Manchester United in the United Kingdom but everything changes when Tawanda falls in love with Nokuthula.
Among the main cast includes Everson K Chieza (Tawanda), Dillon Mafukidze (Biko), Tadiwa Bopoto (Nokuthula), Ben Mahaka, Lee McHoney, and Monalisa Tendere.
Season 2 of the drama was launched at the end of September last year after experiencing delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We are looking for sponsorship and advertisers to raise money to do a third season. Film budgets are really huge, so it takes time,” added Jani.
College Central is a film company that started in college and was later registered as an operating company in 2017. The company has worked on many projects, namely; Close Call, Things we do for love, Special Class Season 1 & 2, Wadiwa Wepa Moyo and Blue Roof, which is currently in pre-production for season 2.
According to Jani, Wadiwa Wepa Moyo has been received as the golden child in rave reviews of the industry.
“It has opened quite some doors for us, and we have gained much recognition. It has also come with a lot of pressure, but we strive to keep our heads above water,” he said.
“We have had support from other filmmakers, and to some, they see us as a threat, but we are just here to grow the industry and earn a living from that.”
Wadiwa Wepa Moyo, lead Chieza (Man Tawa), said it would be a myth to anticipate an earlier production of Season 3.
“It is what we hope for, and all goes back to financial support. If we get that, we get back to creating more quality content for our viewers. That is what is holding Season 3 back,” Man Tawa said.
Man Tawa added that Wadiwa Wepa Moyo’s success brought confidence, assurance and hope to his dream, and he trusts it is the same in every aspiring actor or filmmaker.
“A lot of life lessons were learnt. Of course, we have major negatives like financial support. If viewers pay for content, more quality content is created, and an industry survives,” he said.
Apart from being a film director, editor and photographer, Man Tawa has also featured in other short film projects, namely; Kubhusha, Close Call and Gateway.
Recently, he was appointed brand ambassador for the newly introduced Sable lager. In 2021, he was the brand ambassador for Carling Black Label SA. He has also done a professional advert with ZOL and his name Everson K Chieza is now a registered brand.
“Our projects could be 10 times better than what we are producing if we could get proper sponsors to help cater to our budgets. We, the makers of the art, also want to be rewarded for the hard work,” said Man Tawa.
“I aspire to be in a particular industry with more quality films being produced and everyone involved getting financial fruits from their creativity.
