THE Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (Zoc) has unveiled a substantial incentive package for its Paris 2024 team to motivate competing athletes for the upcoming Summer Games in Paris, France.
According to ZOC president, Thabani Gonye the incentive program will be awarded according to the following: gold medalists will receive $10,000, silver medalists $7,500, bronze medalists $5,000, and those who finish in the top 10 will get $2,500.
“Our athletes deserve to be rewarded for their dedication and performance,” Gonye at a media conference unveiling Team Zimbabwe athletes and officials for the Olympics.
“That is why we have put together a substantial incentive package to motivate our team. Gold medalists will receive $10,000, silver medalists $7,500, bronze medalists $5,000, and those who finish in the top 10 will get $2,500. We want to ensure our Zimbabwean athletes have every opportunity to succeed in Paris.”
Marlene Gadzirayi, the CEO of ZOC, believes in the Zimbabwean team’s potential and would like them to be supported at all levels.
“This team has the potential to deliver exceptional results for Zimbabwe,” Gadzirayi said.
“They have demonstrated their commitment and dedication throughout the qualification process, and we are excited to see them compete against the world’s best athletes in Paris. We wish them all the best and will provide them with the necessary support to ensure they perform at their optimal level.”
The seven member team, led by Chef de Mission Ringisai Mapondera, will compete across three different sporting disciplines, including marathon, rowing, sprinting, and swimming.
The team comprises is made up of Isaac Mpofu (Marathon), Stephen Cox (Single Men’s Sculls Rowing), Tapiwa Makarawu (200m Sprint), Rutendo Nyahora (Marathon), Makanakaishe Charamba (200m Sprint), Paige Van der Westhuizen (100m Freestyle Swimming) and Dennilson Cyprianos (200m Backstroke Swimming).
The team will be supported by a talented group of coaches and officials, including: Benson Chauke (Marathon Coach), Henry Tabarie (Track and Field Manager), Franz Imfeld ( Rowing Coach and Manager), Masi Adi Takaedza (Swimming Coach and Manager), Sipiwe Kahiya (Admin and Welfare Officer) and Abigail Mnikwa (Physiotherapist.)
