TAKASHINGA Patriots 2 claimed their second victory on the road by bowling out Amakhosi Cricket Club for a mere 71 runs in 21.1 overs at Kwekwe Sports Club.
After winning the toss, Takashinga Patriots 2 captain Daichi Nyandoro elected to bat first, sending his bowling attack to face the hosts.
Faraz Akram took the first wicket in the opening over, and Mgcini Dube did the same in the second over, leaving Amakhosi struggling at 32/5 at the end of Powerplay 1.
The relentless pressure exerted by the Takashinga bowlers frustrated the Amakhosi batsmen, who struggled to find their rhythm and fell into the visitors’ trap. Thamsanqa Nunu was the only Amakhosi batsman to reach double figures with a defiant 13 (14), before falling to a brilliant catch by Takudzwa Chataira off Dube’s delivery.
The hosts were unable to negotiate the Powerplay 2 phase. Takashinga’s bowlers dominated, dismissing the entire Amakhosi lineup for a paltry 71 runs in just 21.1 overs.
This was the second consecutive game in which Takashinga Patriots 2 used their lethal bowling attack to dismantle their opponents. They had previously defeated Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) at the same venue last week.
Skipper Nyandoro led from the front, taking two wickets for just four runs in his three-over spell. Dube, Gwandu, and Akram also chipped in with two wickets each, contributing to the team’s clinical performance.
Dube’s exceptional all-round performance, including his two crucial wickets, earned him the Player of the Match award, highlighting his immense contribution to the overall team performance.
The dominant eight-wicket win in this NPL match further cemented Takashinga Patriots 2’s position as a strong contender in the league, showcasing their ability to outplay their opponents with both the bat and ball.
