Support Unit Women Shatter Lady Citizens’ Unbeaten Streak

GIANT killers, Support Unit Women ended Harare City Women’s unbeaten run this season, delivering their first defeat in a nerve-wracking Harare Premier Volleyball League encounter on Sunday afternoon at the University of Zimbabwe courts.

A hard-fought but well-deserved 2-3 victory was how it ended after the Police outfit won the deciding set 11-15.

The Lady Citizens raced to a comfortable 25-11 win in the first set. They, however, switched off in the second set, losing that encounter 11-25 before going 2-1 in the lead with a 28-26 victory in the third set. With odds pointing to yet another routine 3-1 victory for Harare City, it was not to be as Support Unit summoned all their experience to force the match into a decider with a 21-25 win in the fourth set.

The Lady Citizens, who were yet to be pushed this far in the league, threw in the towel with Support Unit being the first to reach the eight-point mark and eventually celebrated an 11-15 fifth set victory and with it capping a triumphant 2-3 win.

On a day of giant-killing acts, Support Unit also edged UZ Wolves Women 2-3 earlier to boost their chances of a final berth.
