Shihan Muripo Arrives in Japan for Final Fight

SHIHAN Samson Muripo, a two-time World Karate Champion, has arrived in Japan for the 2nd So-Kyokushin World Karate tournament in Shizuoka City, scheduled for November 25 – 27.

This is a significant moment in his distinguished career as he readies himself for the culmination of his extraordinary journey.

This pivotal tournament serves as the arena where Shihan Muripo, a living legend in the martial arts realm, will strive for the coveted Sixth Dan upgrade, marking the zenith of his three-decade-long odyssey that commenced at Ndima Government High School.

The 2nd So-Kyokushin World Karate tournament serves as evidence of Shihan Muripo’s global impact in karate. His outstanding contribution to the sport is recorded in the history books, and this final tournament of his career is expected to be a fitting tribute to his unwavering dedication.

Following the upgrade, the 45-year-old Karate Master will shift his focus towards nurturing the future of karate by taking up the mantle of mentorship for the upcoming generation of martial artists. His mission goes beyond personal achievements, as he aims to plant the seeds of karate’s growth from its roots, ensuring its growth and development for years to come.

In the company of Senseis Likwa Khumalo and George Matambu, both vying for their Fifth Dan upgrades, Shihan Muripo’s journey to Japan signifies a shared commitment to refining their craft.

The journey towards the prestigious tournament has been challenging for the Zimbabwe So-Kyokushin Do Organization. Secretary General Loice Chatizah confirmed the delegation’s arrival in Japan.

However, Chatizah expressed regret over their inability to bring the younger karatekas under their wing to the tournament. This setback is attributed to a stark absence of sponsorship.

“Shihan Samson Muripo is in Shizuoka City in Japan for his 6th Dan grading, and we know that he is going to raise the Zimbabwe Flag high as always,” Chatizah expressed with pride and anticipation.

Chatizah, however, remains optimistic about the future and says, “Although our younger athletes couldn’t participate in this tournament due to lack of funds, we have another tournament coming up in April. We’ll try to gather funds to support our athletes so they can participate in it. Our main goal is to develop the sport from the grassroots level.”
