Sensei Mashaya Appointed President of International Combat Organisation in Zimbabwe

SENSEI Wilfred Mashaya, known as the “Zim Ninja,” has been appointed President of the International Combat Organization (ICO) in Zimbabwe.

This prestigious honour follows his incredible success during a tour of England in October, where he and his student Vincent Fambira won 11 gold medals, elevating Zimbabwe’s presence in international martial arts.

The International Combat Organization (ICO), founded by Martial Arts expert Andrew Hennessy over a decade ago, has become a highly influential and respected global martial arts organization with over 45 affiliated member countries.

Sensei Mashaya’s remarkable dedication and proficiency in multiple martial arts styles, specifically in weapons (Kobudo), were recognized by the ICO. He shattered barriers by becoming the first World Kobudo Champion in Zimbabwe and Africa, revolutionizing martial arts by introducing new disciplines to his homeland.

Mashaya’s commitment and contribution to martial arts in Zimbabwe impressed the ICO, leading them to appoint him as President. He has achieved four black belts, won many awards, and was the first male Zimbabwean athlete to win the coveted Regional Sportsman of the Year.

Master Mashaya expressed his gratitude upon his appointment, promising to nurture local talent and promote martial arts in Zimbabwe.

As Vice President of the Zimbabwe Karate Union, Mashaya highlights the role of martial arts in promoting discipline, health, and self-defence. He encourages youth engagement to prevent crime and substance abuse.

Mashaya expressed his hope for corporate support by stating: “We are hopeful that potential sponsors and the corporate world will join us in supporting our vision and mission for sports.” He elaborated on his plans, including working with children as young as five, promoting gender equality, and expanding martial arts practices to include Karate, Kobudo, and Ninjutsu.

“We will start with seminars and invite regional masters and their students so that we can share the skills with them to establish dojos in their respective countries,” Mashaya added, outlining his vision for spreading martial arts throughout the region.
