THE 11th edition of the Annual Fun Pink Triathlon takes off at Mount Pleasant Pool in Harare Sunday morning, with all the proceeds being channelled towards the Cancer Centre, an official confirmed yesterday.
Running under the auspices of Triathlon Zimbabwe and The Pink Project, ZimWorx have also come on board to ensure that the event becomes a success.
Fitness expert and renowned sports administrator Debi Jeans, a cancer survivor herself, said all the hard work throughout the October Cancer month concludes tomorrow with the staging of the Pink Triathlon competition.
“It’s been a month of pink events, and we (are) almost at the end of the course with the finale, which is the Pink Triathlon tomorrow,” Jeans told EnterSportNews.
“It’s all ready to go, and we set up. Zim Worx has been amazing again; they have come through with the amount we need to host the event, so every dollar raised goes to the Cancer Centre.”
Participants from all age groups are set to compete in both individual and team events during the fun-filled event. Some of the categories on show include tri-tots for the six years and under comprising of a one-width swim, 1.5km bike and a 400m-run. Other events are tri-kids, tri-sport, tri-fun, aqua fun, aquafit, dufun and dufit (2.5km run, 10km bike and 1.25km run.)
“As you know, it’s the most amazing community vibe for all ages and abilities. There’s no placings or timings; everyone races in pink, comes down, does something and helps us raise money for the Cancer Centres,” added Jeans.
“We are all ready to go, and everyone is excited. We had the most amazing good morning at Innov 8, the most incredible turnout was about 30 ladies, and I was delighted that there were quite a few breast cancer survivors. Everyone has worked so hard this month on pink events…just amazing; absolutely amazing people never cease to amaze me and inspire me…I know the boys are complaining about blue month. They don’t get as enough attention or as much as the ladies, so maybe we should do something for them next month for prostate cancer; that will be amazing.”
