No retreat for Lady Chevrons

THE Lady Chevrons have their eyes firmly fixed on the money when the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier begins in three days in Harare.

Zimbabwe are in Group B together with Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand and USA. Group A comprise West Indies, Sri Lanka, Ireland and Netherlands.

All the teams, with the exception, have arrived in the capital for the cricket extravaganza that carries with it three slots for next year Women’s World Cup scheduled for New Zealand.

Except Papua New Guinea pulled out of the tournament after recording Covid-19 cases in their camp. The tournament will now be a nine-team showdown.

All the visiting eight teams will get an opportunity to feel the local wickets as they will be playing warm-up matches tomorrow.

Hosts Zimbabwe will be content with a centre practice at Country Club tomorrow after the withdrawal from the games by PNG.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe had a head start when they entertained Bangladesh in three-one Day Internationals at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

The series ended in disappointing whitewash, but head coach Adam Chifo believes the girls will not be weighed down by the 3-0 defeat in their quest for a World Cup berth.

“We would have liked to play them earlier so that we could get ample time to work on what needs to be worked on, but we are here now, so we will do our best in the short time we have. I am sure we will manage,” Chifo told EnterSportNews.
