Masakadza’s Fiery 120 Not Enough: Patriots 2 Shine Under Highfield’s Dimming Lights

Hamilton Masakadza made a triumphant return for the Takashinga Patriots 1 by racking up an impressive 120 runs in the National Premier League (NPL) face-off against Takashinga Patriots 2.

Although his performance was reminiscent of his glory days, it wasn’t enough to secure a win for his side. The match was played on their home turf in Highfield on Sunday.

Masakadza’s explosive innings consisted of eight sixes and seven fours off 100 balls. However, the team faltered except for Timycen Maruma, who chipped in with 35 runs.

Takashinga Patriots 1 amassed a total of 230 runs at the loss of nine wickets.

In response, Takashinga Patriots 2’s Aliakbar Hamid and Prince Masvaure remained unbeaten with 58 and 44 runs, respectively. Their crucial partnership added 105 runs. However, the match was cut short due to bad light, and using the Duckworth-Lewis method, Takashinga Patriots 2 emerged victoriously by 28 runs.

The NPL match at Kwekwe Sports Club saw Uprising steamroll over Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) with a seven-wicket win. Aisha Chibanda’s fiery 42 runs off 19 balls, which included four sixes and fours, played a pivotal role in the victory.

Earlier in the day, BAC was restricted to 102 runs. Kuda Kaitano and Vitalis Buwu were the highest scorers with 18 runs each. Uprising effortlessly chased down the total in a mere 13 overs.

The Scorpions reigned supreme over the Golden Bulls, thanks to Blessed Muzite’s outstanding all-round performance in the NPL fixture at Masvingo Sports Club on Sunday. He secured four wickets for just nine runs and contributed a valuable 30 runs to the team’s total.

While the Scorpions initially grappled at 96 for six, Nezbert Maringire’s 55 runs provided the needed momentum to push the score to 195.

The Golden Bulls’ innings never took off, losing half their side for just 31 runs. Tendai Tapera and Misheck Gwizi tried to salvage the innings with a 58-run partnership. However, the team folded at 107, handing the Scorpions an 88-run victory.
