MARCISKOOL Academy, one of the leading learning institutions in Chitungwiza, recently hosted a successful two-day inter-house Computer Science e-Sports competition at their Riverside premises from June 19-20.

The event featured students in grades 3-7 showcasing their understanding of mathematics, science, logic, and their ability to navigate computer-interfaced programs designed for varying levels of competition.

The grade 3 pupils participated in a number cube sequencing challenge, where they had to pick the correct sequence of numbers from 1 to 20, with the top finishers in each group of five facing off in the finals.

“The school wanted to allow every learner to participate in E-sports since it’s part and parcel of the new curriculum, and we are now living in a technologically advanced world,” said Marcyline Serima, the principal of Marciskool Academy.

“Every child has to embrace E-sports, which is a vehicle for E-learning in a modern world. E-Sports is a modern sport which empowers learners intellectually and stimulates critical thinking and problem-solving approaches.”

On the second day, the ECD and grades 1-2 students competed in similar computer-interfaced educational games tailored to their developing faculties. The event attracted a large number of parents and guardians who came to support and witness their children’s tech skills in the “battle of zeros and ones.

The competition was based on the Cosci e-Sports program, a brainchild of Sherperd Chimururi, an education technology visionary and the director of Dzidzo Inhaka.

Marciskool Academy has been actively embedding E-sports in their curriculum, as evidenced by their recent success at the Dzidzo Inhaka Computer Science e-Sports Infant and Junior tournament held at the Zimsec auditorium in Harare, where they emerged victorious with seven gold medals, five silver, and three bronze.

“Marciskool Academy held the best inter-house e-sports competitions since the inception of the school,” Serima said.

“E-Sports is a modern sport which empowers learners intellectually and stimulates critical thinking and problem-solving approaches.”

The successful hosting of this event highlights Marciskool Academy’s dedication to providing its students with a comprehensive education that embraces the digital age and prepares them for future challenges.
