FORMER Warriors captain Norman Mapeza has been appointed the Interim Head Coach of the Zimbabwe Senior Men’s football team on a three-month contract as first reported by EnterSportnNews.
Coaches Taurayi Mangwiro and Mandla Mpofu will assist Mapeza while Energy Murambadaro has been named Goalkeepers’ Coach.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) announced in a statement released by Communications and Competitions Manager Xolisani Gwesela earlier today.
“We would like to inform the football fraternity and the nation at large that ZIFA has agreed terms with Norman Mapeza to become the Interim Head Coach of the Warriors on a three-month contract,” wrote Gwesela.
“We also express our gratitude to former coach Zdravko Logarusic for the services he rendered, and we wish him the best in his future endeavours.”
Mapeza, a fans’ favourite, has his work cut out as he has to turn around the fortunes of the Warriors in a short space of time as they play back to back 2022 World Cup Qualifiers against Ghana and South Africa next month.
The three-month contract, which covers the remaining games of the second round of World Cup Qualifiers, is used by ZIFA to assess Mapeza and his technical team. The supreme football body will see if they deserve to be given the job full-time before the Africa Cup of Nations, which Cameroon is hosting in January.
