Manyuchi cleared to defend his title

THE Zimbabwe Boxing and Wrestling Control Board (ZBWCB) have given the WBF middleweight champion Charles Manyuchi the green light to defend his title against Uganda’s Mohammed Sebyala.

Manyuchi is currently preparing under the watchful eye of Zambian renowned trainer Greetings Kaonga for a winner-take-all World Boxing Federation, World Professional Boxing Federation (WPBF) and WABA Supreme Unification titles bout against Uganda’s Muhamad Sebyala on July 3 in Masvingo.

The 31-year-old pugilist won the WBF middleweight title after stopping Argentina’s Diego Gallardo in September 2019 at the Harare International conference centre and will be out to grab the inaugural WABA crown.

“I write to kindly advise that the Government of Zimbabwe has authorised the hosting of the Duel of the Doom Boxing Tournament which is scheduled for July 3 2021, at the Flamboyant Hotel in Masvingo. The main attraction, we understand, is a match between Charles Manyuchi and Mohammed Sebyala of Uganda,” ZBWCB secretary general Lawrence Zimbudazana said in a letter to the Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy.

“As you are aware, the country is still battling the surge in Covid-19 cases. The clearance has, therefore, been issued subject to strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols and health guidelines. These measures include, but not limited to:
“All boxers are tested for Coivd-19 before the match,
“All technical teams, i.e. managers, trainers and/or seconds, are tested for Covid – 19.
“The tournament will be held virtually, i.e. with no physical spectators at the venue. In addition, the existing Covid-19 and boxing regulations remain in force.

“You are therefore kindly requested to liaise with our offices for additional guidelines and assistance in ensuring effective preparation and execution of the tournament,” he said.

Manyuchi has 15 knockouts in 24 wins against four losses and a single draw, whilst his challenger Sebyala has 16 knockouts from 19 wins, 13 defeats with two being knockouts and a single draw.
