Lady Chevrons Ready For Bangladesh Series

ZIMBABWE Senior Women’s Cricket team is in good shape ahead of the three-match One Day International series against Bangladesh Women scheduled to bowl off in Bulawayo on Wednesday, head coach Adam Chifo has confirmed.

Despite a few niggles that the coach hopes are nothing too serious, Wednesday presents an excellent opportunity for the Lady Chevrons to assess their progress heading into the make or break ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers in Harare later this month.

Experienced top order Sharne Mayers touched down on Saturday to give the team the much-needed cover upfront. The South African based player started training with the rest of the team today.

Bangladesh also arrived in the country on Sunday and are already in Bulawayo for the ODI series.

“We are good to go. We are in a good space but just anxious to see how it goes. I think the Bangladesh matches will give us a feel of where we are right now,” Chifo told EnterSportNews.

“Quite some stiff competition (within the Lady Chevrons’ training camp), but it’s healthy as it gives us variety, and it pushes guys to perform so they can keep their spot in the team.”

Zimbabwe is in Group B for the 10-team World Cup Qualifiers scheduled to run from November 21 to December 5 in the capital. The other Group B members are Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand and USA.

Group A comprise West Indies, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Papua New Guinea and the Netherlands.

The top three teams qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 to be held in New Zealand from March 4 to April 3.
