Lady Chevrons invade Bulawayo

ZIMBABWE Women’s Cricket this afternoon swapped base leaving Harare for Bulawayo ahead of the incoming One Day International series against Bangladesh Women.

The three-match ODI series forms part of preparations for the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers to be hosted later this month by Zimbabwe.

Bulawayo’s Queens Sports Club will host the ODI series. The games are scheduled for November 10, 12 and 14.

Players and officials, including head coach Adam Chifo and assistant Sinikiwe Mpofu, made a beeline today to the City of Kings and Queens. The players who made the cut for this series are captain Mary-Anne Musonda, deputy Josephine Nkomo, wicket-keeper batter Modester Mupachikwa, all-rounders Ashley Ndiraya and Precious Marange and top-order batter Christabel Chatonzwa.

Pace bowlers Esther Mbofana, Nomvelo Sibanda, Audrey Mazvishaya and Chiyedza also made it into the trip and Loreen Thsuma, Lorryn Phiri, Tasmeen Granger, Nyasha Gwanzura and Francisca Chipare.

Meanwhile, at least 1000 fully vaccinated fans will be admitted to watch the games for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country the hardest in 2019.

The fans will be subjected to strict Covid-19 protocols that include the proper wearing of face masks and mandatory maintenance of physical distancing.

“We have been missing the excitement and energy that fans bring to the game of cricket. We will be thrilled to safely welcome them for the first time in nearly two years as we host Bangladesh Women at Queens Sports Club in November,” said Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni.

“As excitement builds ahead of that crucial series, we take this opportunity to encourage all cricket lovers to ensure that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 for them to be permitted into the ground.”
