Kuipers second best in U23 Africa Champs

US-based Zimbabwe triathlete Andie Kuipers finished second in the U23 and eighth overall in the Women’s Elite event of the 2022 Africa Triathlon Cup in Kilifi, Kenya, over the weekend.

Kuipers shrugged off the wrist niggle she picked up soon after the Africa Championships in Agadir, Morocco. She finished fourth in the U23 in September.

Kuipers was the 11th Elite athlete home in Agadir and seventh in the mixed relay. Still, over the weekend in Mombasa, she claimed a commendable top 10 finish in a time of 01:12:36 against a highly competitive 14-women lineup.

Australia’s Tanja Stroschneider won gold in 01:05:48, and Zuzanna Sudak of Poland claimed silver medal.

Japan’s Niina Kishimoto came third in a befitting tribute to the late Japanese Olympics hopeful and teammate, Tsudoi Miyazaki, who died in a tragic accident. Miyazaki was knocked down on her bike by a car during training in France at the end of July.
