Heath Streak, Former Chevrons Captian Dies at 49

FORMER Zimbabwe national cricket team captain Heath Streak succumbed to cancer early Sunday morning.

He was 49.

Last week, social media was awash with rumours of his death, which later turned out to be a hoax.

Streak, the greatest fast bowler ever to come out of Zimbabwe, had been battling cancer for some time and could not extend his innings, falling one short of his half-century.

The former Zimbabwe all-rounder died surrounded by his family. His wife Nadine announced her husband’s death on Facebook.

“In the early hours of this morning, this Sunday, the 3rd of September, the greatest love of my life and the father of my beautiful children was carried to be with angels from his home where he wished to spend his last days surrounded by his family and closest loved ones,” wrote Nadine.

“He was covered in love and peace and didn’t walk off the park alone.”

Streaky, as he was fondly called by his legion of fans, played 65 Test matches and 189 ODI’s.

He still holds the Zimbabwe record of most wickets, 216 in Test and 239 scalps in ODI cricket.
