Harare Volleyball’s Armageddon: Fierce Rivalries and Epic Clashes in Season Finale
The stage is set at Chikurubhi as the Harare Premier Volleyball League gears up for a thrilling conclusion to an unforgettable season.
The excitement is building, and the curtain is ready to fall on what promises to be a spectacular finale.
The weekend starts with an extraordinary clash, with fans reminiscing about classic battles from the past. Harare City Men will face their rivals, UZ Wolves Men, on Saturday at 8.30 am in Court 1. This clash between two fading giants is reminiscent of the final clash at Malawi’s 2019 Zone 6 Senior Club Championships. An all Zimbabwe Men’s final saw these two clubs go toe to toe until a dramatic 3-2 win by UZ Wolves in the decisive set.
“It seems they have since then refused to be separated. If one of them catches a cold, the other sneezes, and Saturday morning will be a showdown not to miss despite it being a fifth/sixth-place placement match,” states an insider close to both teams.
Meanwhile, the Women’s category promises to be just as riveting. The hosts, Support Unit, will face Manyame Falcons in the first Women’s Semifinal match on Court 2 at 9 am. Having previously defeated the Falcons with a 3-0 whitewash, the Eagles feel confident about their chances of reaching the final.
The second Women’s semi-final will feature the high-flying Lady Citizens, Harare City, who have only tasted defeat once this season. They will entertain their bitter rivals, UZ Wolves Women, in Court 2 at 11 am.
Leadme Muhlohla, Harare City Women’s Head Coach, reflected on their only loss of the season, calling it a wake-up call. “I think we just lost to the better team of the day. Otherwise, everything else was okay. Their defence was good, we attacked, they defended so well, and that was the difference,” he commented.
Muhlohla exuded confidence, expressing optimism about the final, and attributed the team’s success to hard work and teamwork. “It can only be hard work and teamwork. I think we are working as a team, so whatever the result we get, we credit it to the team. We lose as a team. We win as a team,” he added.
The first Men’s semifinal, pitting NABA against Support Unit, is scheduled for 12 pm on Saturday, followed by the battle of uniformed forces between Black Rhinos and Black Mambas at 2 pm.
The third-place playoffs for Men and Women will take place on Sunday at 08.30 and 10.30 am, respectively. Fans will then be treated to the Women’s final at 12 pm, leading to the climactic Men’s final, concluding the season at 2 pm.
