Harare Hosts Provincial Archery Championships

HARARE Archery Club is currently hosting the Harare Provincial Championships, with 17 entries drawn from the capital.

The participants comprise Harare Archery Club, X10 Archery Club, and Courteney Selous School, all trying to outwit each other in the bull’s eye aiming game.

The new field of competitors is promising but relatively untested, with some only recently returning from a Covid-19-related hiatus.

A notable absentee from the event, Bryce Hill, Zimbabwe’s promising Junior Recurve Archer, is currently representing the nation at the World Youth Archery Games in Ireland.

The country’s archery enthusiasts will keenly observe his performance, offering a glimpse of the future potential of Zimbabwean archery on the global stage.

Archery has been enjoying remarkable growth in Zimbabwe, thanks to their participatory efforts in the Continental Championships held in South Africa in November 2022.

On June 11, the Harare Archery Club hosted its second Annual Club Championships at the Courteney Selous School.

The event attracted a diverse roaster of 16 competitors ranging from 10 to 50 years old, including five women and 11 men. The lineup was particularly notable for including a participant from Malawi, marking a welcome step towards regional collaboration.

As the Zimbabwe Archery Association circuit navigates these exciting times, the sport’s popularity continues to grow.

This rise is a testament to the archers’ talents and a collective effort to promote archery as a competitive sport, proving that Association is committed to nurturing and expanding its sports culture.

Zimbabwe Archery is on a promising trajectory, and the world will be watching closely.
