Finchatton wins OK Grand Challenge
FINCHATTON won the 32nd edition of the OK Grand Challenge yesterday.
The nine-year-old Finchatton, the oldest horse in the race, pipped Peggson and Holy Land to claim victory in one of Zimbabwe’s most coveted races.
This horse race is part of the annual programme of the OK Grand Challenge, in which all a customer needs to do is buy goods of the monetary value prescribed by OK at any OK Shop around the country.
After purchasing the goods, customers are then given coupons on which they fill in their details on the coupon and submit the coupons in the containers provided in OK Stores.
The coupons are then gathered up from all OK Stores around the country for a national draw where people win an assortment of prizes ranging from cars, houses, residential stands, and price discounts.
Finchatton from the Gorkan Terzi stable went one better in the 2021 edition, having come second in the last edition of the OK Grand Challenge.
The winning horse is no stranger to winning big races, winning the World Sports Betting Grand Heritage in South Africa.
Diego Gouveia, the South African jockey who rode Finchatton to victory, was over the moon, having come from behind to win the OK Grand Challenge, which had a US$ 70 000 cheque with the winner pocketing US$ 17 500.
“I am very enlightened to grace one of Zimbabwe’s prestigious races. It’s a privilege to add that to my CV that I have won one of the prestigious races in a beautiful country like Zimbabwe,” said Gouveia.
Trainer Terzi, who is now looking forward to the Castle Tankard, was equally happy. -By Brian Goredema at BORROWDALE RACECOURSE
