Doc Vikela, Bhutisi in stand-up comedy tour

Comedians Doc Vikela and Bhutisi are set to embark on a national stand-up comedy tour, “Comedy Junta, ” which will run for three months.

The first show will take place on March 30th at Triangle Country Club in Triangle.

The actual names of Doc Vikela and Bhutisi are Victor Mpofu and Admire Kuzhangaira, respectively.

Speaking to EnterSportNews, they expressed excitement about the tour and emphasized their aim of taking comedy to the people.

“Most people are used to seeing us on the internet, so we intend to meet and interact with our fans,” said Doc Vikela.

“Our pact resembles a unity of purpose. It is exciting as each of us has our own set at every show,” he added.

The second show is scheduled for April 6th at the Rainbow Towers VIP Lounge in Harare, while the third show will be held at the Courtauld Theatre in Mutare on April 13th.

The fourth show is scheduled for April 18th at Cotton Lounge in Bulawayo, and the fifth show will take place at the Charles Austin Theatre in Masvingo.

“The tour is going on for the next three months, and future dates will be released in due course,” said Bhutisi.

Doc Vikela emphasized their primary aim: to fill the VIP lounge at The Rainbow Towers.

“Teaming up with Bhutisi is a great achievement, and people should expect fireworks,” he added.

Doc Vikela founded Simuka Comedy, which gave birth to comedy projects like Special Class, Vakuru, and PaTown, which are available online.

This upcoming tour will be his third. Bhutisi has been doing comedy since 2014, and most of his works are available on social media platforms. He co-founded P.O. Box Reloaded with Rolland Lunga (Boss Kedha).

In 2022, he launched #Continuity, where he plays the main character Mukadota (Baba Rwizi), popularized in the 80s by the late actor and musician Safirio Madzikatire.

“Both of us have contributed so much to this industry, especially under Simuka Comedy and P.o. Box Reloaded,” said Bhutisi.

“Coming up with P.o. Box has been the major highlight of my career as it opened doors for other artists,” he added.

Doc Vikela hinted that the main challenge in the comedy industry is the economy, which has pushed artists against the wall.

“It is difficult for us to sell out live shows as most people do not have disposable income,” he said. “We need partners for us to stay afloat,” he concluded.
