ZIMBABWE Women’s Cricket team coach Adam Chifo has called on the team to return to basics if they harbour any intentions of winning Monday’s decisive T20I international against Thailand and subsequently win the series.
A tale of dropped catches and missed chances has complicated the Lady Chevrons’ prospects of wrapping up matches, while lack of patience has often led to the team’s downfall when batting.
The home team drew first blood by winning the first T20I match, but the visitors clawed back in spectacular fashion with a 53-run victory on Saturday.
Zimbabwe were set 154 runs for victory but were bundled out for 101 runs at Takashinga Cricket Club.
Tomorrow’s encounter has dire consequences. Whoever makes monstrous mistakes loses the series.
Chifo lamented the team’s show on the second match.
“Not as we would have wanted. I felt we were out of form in all departments. We didn’t start well with the ball and never seemed to recover until the end. Once again, we are dropping catches at crucial stages of the match, which makes it difficult for us to be in control of the innings,” Chifo told EnterSportNews.
“Chasing 150 was always going to be a big ask for us. We needed to stay at par with the run rate, but we lost a lot of wickets too early and in clusters which made it difficult and put us under a lot of pressure, and again we never recovered as the asking rate kept on. Going up after every over.”
The Zimbabwean gaffer is looking forward to an improved performance tomorrow.
“We will obviously be guided by our team key performance indicators on how we go about our business, and we will be able to measure performance in relation to the KPIs,” he said.
In their last competitive match before the World Cup, African Qualifiers in Botswana Zimbabwe want to finish on high and carry the momentum into the tournament.
