Chess Arbiter Murimi Earns International Spotlight

SIMBARASHE Murimi, Zimbabwe’s international chess arbiter, has made history once again by being invited to officiate at the prestigious 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary, set to take place in September.

This comes as no surprise, as Murimi is currently the only Zimbabwean to hold the esteemed title of International Arbiter (IA), placing him amongst the world’s elite chess officials.

IA Murimi’s impressive resume and extensive international experience have solidified his reputation as a competent and reliable arbiter. He has been recognized as an International Arbiter since 2018, a title awarded to those who have demonstrated their ability to officiate chess tournaments at the highest level.

To earn this distinction, Murimi had to pass rigorous examinations and meet specific criteria set by the International Chess Federation (FIDE).

The 47-year-old chess official has an impressive track record, having officiated at major international events, including the 43rd Chess Olympiad in India, World Youth Championships, and various African Individuals, African Youth, Zonals, World Youth, African Junior, Botswana Open, Angola Open, and African Schools tournaments.

Murimi’s selection to officiate at the 45th Chess Olympiad is proof of his competence in the field.

His vast international experience, combined with his commitment to upholding the rules and regulations of chess, make him a force to reckon with in international chess.

The 45th Chess Olympiad is set to be an exciting event, bringing together some of the world’s top chess players to compete for the coveted title of Olympiad Champion.

With Murimi’s expertise and experience, Zimbabwe will be well-represented in Hungary.
