Brito appointed Warriors coach

HIGHLANDERS coach Baltemar Brito has been appointed Zimbabwe Senior Men’s team, Warriors head coach until June, 2024.

The Bosso mentor will be assisted by former Hwange gaffer, Bongani Mafu and Dynamo coach, Genesis Mangombe.

In a statement: “The Normalisation Committee (NC) settled for the trio after an extensive recruitment and consultative process based on regional, continental, and global confederations guidelines,” read the statement from NC.

The ZIFA NC decided to not burden the association’s board that will be elected after their mandate is over, Brito and his technical team’s mandate will end with that of the NC.

“The NC set the coaches term of engagement to end at the same time as with its mandate so that the next board will have the opportunity to recruit its own coaches,” the statement from the NC read further.

Their first assignment is an invitational tournament to celebrate Botswana’s Independence Day on the 30th of September.

However, their biggest assignment of the year will be the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers which begin in November.

The bad news for the Warriors supporters is that they may have to fork out money to watch their teams home games in foreign lands because none of the local stadia meet CAF regulations to host international football.

The most important thing is that Zimbabwe is back in the international football family.
