THE Sports and Recreation Commission has suspended the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) led by underfire president Felton Kamambo.
The suspension comes two months before the Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Cameroon, in which Zimbabwe are the sole representative of Southern Africa at the biannual tournament.
Decisions for the suspension are not yet revealed, but it is believed that the Warriors indifferent campaign in the just-ended World Cup Qualifiers forms the basis of the firing. Monday’s untimely resignation of Warriors talisman Khama Billiat might be the final straw that broke the camel’s back.
It seems like the Gerald Mhlotshwa led board hasn’t learnt lessons from the cricket debacle, which led to Zimbabwe being suspended by International Cricket Council (ICC) due to government interference.
SRC has scored another own goal, and FIFA will surely suspend Zimbabwe if the regulatory body doesn’t rescind its decision. Fifa doesn’t tolerate any form of government interference. More details to follow…
