Breaking News: Clive Mphambela Dies

Clive Mphambela, a former banker, died on Saturday morning after succumbing to injuries sustained in a car accident on Thursday morning.

Mphambela, the Planning and Development Director of the Zimbabwe Chess Federation (ZCF) and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Veterans of the Liberation Struggles.

He was 51.

Mphambela was on his way to a work seminar in Masvingo when the vehicle he was travelling in crashed into a stationary vehicle near Chivhu along Masvingo road. He had been in a coma since the accident until his passing Saturday, the morning of his 51st birthday EntersportNews has learned.

The articulate chess administrator, Mphambela, who was also a FIDE arbiter and played a key role in reviving chess in Zimbabwe after the passing of former ZCF president, Charles Kuwaza.

He was scheduled to be part of the ZCF delegation travelling to the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary in early September.
