Boxing Champ To Defend Title At Home
WBC Africa welterweight champion Brendon ‘Boika’ Denes is set to defend his title on home soil.
The Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy star faces highly-rated Tanzanian boxer Hassan Mwakinyo who has won 18 and lost two bouts, in a title defence match scheduled for the end of May.
The match was initially slated for March but was later postponed.
Denes is currently on cloud nine after dislodging Pakistan’s Ahmed Samir Dawran in Dubai, United Arab Emirates over the weekend. The 26-year-old boxer said he is impressed with his win in Dubai and now prepares for his title defence match.
He is now standing on a nine-bout winning streak and is desperate to make 10 wins next month.
“The win is good for me as I am just putting myself in shape while waiting for the big match against the Tanzanian,” Denes told EnterSport.
The athlete’s trainer Ali Phiri said they are looking forward to hosting the title defence match.
“We have since shifted focus to the upcoming match which we might host,” he said.
“I’m sure he will fight on the same day that Charles Manyuchi will be fighting for his WBF crown.”
Denes is now targeting the African Boxing Union super welterweight title after bagging the WBF intercontinental super lightweight title in 2019, and the WBC Africa welterweight title, following his impressive win in Namibia.
