Curtain comes down on The Heart Women Soccer League Tournament

THE curtain comes down tomorrow on the inaugural Heart Women’s Soccer League Tournament with Chapungu Queens and Black Mambas Queens battling it out for supremacy to be crowned champions.

The richest women’s football knock out tournament will see the champions walking away with $10,000, floating trophy and medals and the Runner-up will get $5,000, silver medals with the third placed team getting $3,000 plus bronze medals.

All the participating teams will walk away with prize money depending on where they finished during the tournament.

Former Dynamos Football Club vice president, Vincent Chawonza through his Open Gold Enterprise company is sponsoring the prizes.

On top of team prizes, the outstanding goalkeeper, most disciplined team and the coach of the tournament will each walk away with $1000 each. The player of the tournament will walk away $1,500 richer.

On what promises to be a memorable final day of the tournament, fans will be taken on a retro ride as the organisers turn back the clock with a match pitting former Mighty Warriors against CAPS United legends at 1pm.

The Heart Women Soccer League chairperson, Theresa Maguraushe, was happy with how everything has turned out.

“Women’s football symbolises resilience and determination. We celebrate more than just a tournament – we celebrate women’s football progress,” she said.

Maguraushe who has been in football trenches for a long time believes that the women’s game in the country has turned a corner.

“The Heart Women Soccer League tournament empowers women, providing a platform for talented women to shine. We thank our revered sponsor, The Heart Group and in particular Prophet Walter Magaya, players, coaches, and fans.”

11am: Herentals Queens vs Harare City Queens. (Third place play-off)
1pm: Former Mighty Warriors vs Caps United legends (curtain raiser)
Chapungu Queens vs Black Mambas Queens (Championship Final)
