Delta, CABS Clinch Titles in Social Wellness Volleyball Pre-Season Tournament
CABS women’s and Delta men’s teams secured titles at the pre-season open tournament of the Social Wellness Volleyball League (SWVL).
The event, held at the Churchill High School Courts, saw Delta narrowly defeat Econet 2-1, while CABS dominated NetOne with a convincing 2-0 win to secure their respective championships.
The winning teams were awarded trophies and medals, and Delta’s male squad also collected a slew of individual accolades.
Samson Makuyana’s relentless attacking earned him the Best Attacker and Most Valuable Player awards, while Justice Raradza’s exceptional setting skills saw him named the Best Setter, solidifying Delta’s supremacy on the court.
Econet’s Tawanda Pamire and Blessing Chimanga were recognised for their defensive skills, winning the Best Saver and Best Blocker awards respectively, showcasing Econet’s formidable presence in the tournament.
The tournament began with teams divided into pools, where Delta and Econet quickly declared their superiority, securing decisive victories in their matches. AFC and CABS also impressed, earning their way to the quarterfinals with impressive wins.
In the semifinals, Econet and Delta emerged victorious against AFC and CABS, respectively, setting the stage for an exciting final match.
SWVL chairperson Raradza emphasised the importance of the tournament in promoting wellness-related activities and announced the start of the SWVL league scheduled for the coming weekend.
“This tournament marks the beginning of the SWVL league, and we are thrilled to see the level of competition and the emergence of new talents,” said Raradza.
“We encourage our members to continue participating in wellness-related activities as that is the core purpose behind this league.”
In the women’s category, CABS secured third place by outplaying AFC in the playoff, while NetOne settled for second. RBZ claimed third, followed by ZB and Stanbic.
With their remarkable displays of talent and teamwork, Delta and CABS have set the bar high for the upcoming SWVL league, promising an exciting season ahead.
