IT was a rainbow day for Takashinga Patriots 1 as they enjoyed perfect weather conditions in their four-wicket win over Rainbow in a National Premier League encounter played in Highfields on Friday.
Playing at their home ground, a One Day International certified venue, Takashinga Cricket Club, the Patriots, buoyed by half-centuries from explosive opener Tinashe Kamunhukamwe (67) and Timycen Maruma (53), chased down Rainbow’s 181/8 in 44.2 overs inside 26.2 overs.
Wellington Masakadza was unbeaten on 19, and with his three wickets for 19 runs during Rainbow’s innings, he was adjudged player of the match.
Fellow Patriots spinner Tapiwa Mufudza also picked three wickets for the same number of runs as Masakadza. Rainbow once again looked to Lavert Masunda for runs. Still, he only went as far as 27 top scoring for his side, while Patrick Nyamapfeni and Gary Chirimuuta contributed 14 and 11 runs, respectively.
Rainbow’s Mathew Campbell was not outdone on the three-wicket haul, although he was a bit expensive, giving away 49 runs. Nyamapfeni picked two wickets, albeit in a losing cause for Rainbow on a Hunkdory wicket.
