ZIFA Normalisation Committee Invites Coaching Job Applications

THE recently appointed Zimbabwe Football Association Normalisation Committee has set up the highest level of qualifications for candidates wishing to apply for the various vacant national football team coaching jobs.

The NC which is chaired by former Dynamos chairman, Lincoln Mutasa and includes former Mighty Warriors coach Rosemary Mugadza, former Highlanders defender Sikhumbuzo Ndebele — who is a member of the British Sports Lawyers Association and legal practitioner Nyasha Tashinga Sanyamandwe has advertised the jobs for national team coaches from Under/17 to the senior team for both men and women.

The NC launched a public hunt for national team coaches replacement this Tuesday, inviting applications after FIFA reversed the ban on Zimbabwean football that led to national teams being barred from participation in continental or global events.

The search for the men’s senior team head coach comes ahead of their World Cup 2026 qualifying campaign with Norman Mapeza having been the last to take charge of the national team.

The call for applications listed the roles and responsibilities of the head coach in the Warriors set up in the cycle 2023 – 2028.

“The coach will be the Head Coach for the senior men national team and oversee the developmental sides’ pathways U23, U20 and U17 for both men and women. With his technical team, he will lead the program and preparations of the teams for the 2023 CHAN Qualifiers, Cosafa Tournaments, Olympics qualifiers, 2025 Africa Cup qualifiers and the 2026 FIFA Woid Cup USA,” read the call for invitations.

According to the NC, among the successfull candidate’s profile should include extensive international football knowledge and experience at senior national team level (Africa and Europe), must have very good understanding of Zimbabwe national team playing philosophy and playing principles to create a competitive and successful team, must own good educational skills and a clear coaching methodology, must have a good understanding of the role of sport science in preparing players at international level.

The aspiring coach must also have experience having worked as a coach for an African national team which will be an added advantage.

The Warriors will take part in the qualifying campaign after FIFA lifted an international ban on the country last month.

The Southern African nation was suspended by the world football governing body in February last year for third party interference after the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended the ZIFA executive, led by Felton Kamambo, for a litany of allegations, chiefly failure to account for public funds.

Zimbabwe were drawn in Group C along with neighbours South Africa, Lesotho, Rwanda, Benin and Nigeria.

Nine group winners qualify for World Cup in Canada, Mexico and United States.

Best four group runners-up enter play-offs and winners qualify for inter-confederation tournament.
