Bosso Charge Towards Castle Premiership Crown after Epic Ngezi Victory

SEVENTEEN matches into the 2023 Castle Premiership title race, Bulawayo giants Highlanders are unbeaten and now lead second-placed Ngezi Platinum Stars by seven points.

And Bosso made their intentions clear with hard fought 1-0 victory over Ngezi at the Baobab Stadium this Sunday.

A goal by Lynoth Chikuhwa in the second half was enough to ensure that Highlanders maintained their chokehold on the premiership log standings. That priceless away goal means Siyinqaba have now won 10 and drawn seven of their PSL games so far this season.

It has not always been pretty for Baltemar Brito’s lads, but six successive league wins prove that this modus operandi is working for them! And the 37-point haul is evidence of this.

At this point in the title race, no one doubts Brito’s pedigree as he attempts to steer Highlanders to their first title in 17 years, the last having arrived under the stewardship of Methembe Ndlovu.

The Eastern Highlands-based Gem Boys, Manica Diamonds, saw off a lame challenge from Bulawayo Chiefs to prevail 3-1 at Gibbo Stadium on Saturday to stay within sight of the table toppers.

Manica Diamonds are third on the table, eight points behind Bosso and one behind Ngezi.

Harare’s seven million club, Dynamos, are back in the hunt after pummeling Yadah 5-1 in Bulawayo this Sunday to move within nine points of Highlanders. The Glamour Boys have now won seven of their 17 matches, having drawn seven and lost three.

CAPS United struggled for consistency and were edged 2-1 by the Tino Benza-inspired Herentals at Mandava Stadium. Young Benza scored in the tie as his stock continued to rise.

The Students are eighth on the table behind CAPS, but the two sides are tied on 24 points, with only three goals separating them.

The shock result of matchday 17 was FC Platinum’s 2-1 home loss to struggling Gweru side, Sheasham, who are in the drop zone alongside Black Rhinos (18th), Cranborne Bullets (17th) and Yadah (16th).

Rhinos drew one-all against Simba Bhora at Bata Ground in Gweru to stay rooted at the bottom of the table. Simba Bhora are just one place off the drop zone.
