SCHEDULED for April, this year’s annual SAMA Festival UK has been rebranded and is set to feature a diverse line-up of artistes, EnterSportNews has learnt.
Organised by Y2K Entertainment Music & Arts, this year’s event is billed Leicester Weekender with a welcome party on April 7, SAMA main event on the 8th and a family show on the 9th, all in Leicester.
Y2K Entertainment Music & Arts Director Alex Marapara said the Festival had also been rebranded to capture the younger generation.
“We cater to all music genres from Zimdancehall, Reggae, Urban, Sungura and Jiti. So, it is a mixed bag,” he said.
Artistes billed to perform at this year’s Festival include Baba Harare, Enzo Ishall, Ndunge Yut, Holly 10, Saintfloew, Seh Calaz, Mark Ngwazi, Gemma Griffiths and DJ Rhibhe.
“Enzo represents Zimdancehall. Ndunge Yut needs this platform to showcase and unlock his potential. No doubt he will surprise a few with his stage antics.
“Holly 10, the controversial yet talented one, will attract the younger generation, especially those in college and universities. Saintfloew, the dark horse is a bit more versatile and can easily crossover between urban and dancehall.”
“Seh Calaz is a veteran Dancehall and Reggae artiste. Ngwazi is the new Sungura king, and his popularity in the UK speaks for itself. Gemma represents females and has some interesting collaborations.”
Baba Harare will be performing for the third time at SAMA Festival UK. Debutants include Enzo Ishall, Ndunge Yut and DJ Rhibhe.
Marapara said they also significantly improved PA production, staging, and lighting.
“We also improved a lot on ticketing and have gone all e-ticketing, and that is very convenient as we just scan on your mobile,” he added.
“Finally, Mai Titi may be controversial as a socialite but has done some collaborations with Baba Harare and again brings a balance to females.
“Our MC is Empres Trisha, and the Hostess for Press Conference is Belinda Magejo, again promoting females who tend to be underrepresented in UK events.”
