Davidson Stars In Musselburgh Debut

ZIMBABWE top Rider Skye Davidson won a gold medal in her debut race for Musselburgh Roads Cycling Club during the recent Eileen Roe Shield Road Race in Dunfermline, Scotland.

The race incorporated the Scottish Junior National Championships. Davidson asserted herself as one of the finest riders as she crossed the line in sixth place behind the five junior ladies and the first rider home in the senior category.

Davidson was ecstatic about her performance.

“We had some really strong riders in the field, which made for some fantastic racing. I felt strong initially, but after a few laps, the short, punchy climbs started taking a toll on my legs, and I realised that I would very much need to save as much as I could for later on,” Davidson said of her race.

“And that proved to be the case with two laps to go, and an attack went up the steepest climb of the circuit. I responded, and seven of us went clear of the rest of the bunch. We kept the pace high until the end. The intensity of every climb was upped, and I surprised myself with how much pain I could take in the legs and still keep hanging on – thanks to the intense interval sessions Johann Wykerd has been giving me.

“We got to the base of the final climb up to the finish, and the race blew apart with the incredibly strong junior girls launching their attacks. I raced a new friend of mine to the line for sixth place behind them and managed to get that plus the win in the senior category as there were only juniors ahead of us.”
