Broken bike spoil Davidson’s return

FORMER Africa Junior Women Cycling champion Skye Davidson makes a welcome return to the Cycling Zimbabwe team during the Africa Road Cycling championships in Sharm ElSheikh, Egypt, today.

It has been five years since Davidson donned the national team colours and has been itching for a return.

The 24-year-old, now based in the UK, studying towards a masters degree at Edinburgh University, will have to do with a borrowed bike for the Elite Women Road Race.

Her bike broke in transit as she made her long trip to Egypt.

“I can’t ride it on Sunday. Thankfully, I have an amazing team here who managed to get me a bike to borrow on Sunday,” Davidson told EnterSportNews.

“Unfortunately, I couldn’t be racing my own bike, but I have got a great bike that I have been out on training these last couple of days.”

Despite the setback, she is still hopeful of a good ride.

“The course is pretty much flat. There’s a few small drags and pretty much very windy,” she said.

“It’s a loop of about 10km up and back, tailwinds on our way out and the headwinds facing them on our way back so that it will be a fast race for sure, and I’m looking forward to it.”
