Pool Association selects national squads

BIG names fell by the wayside and missed out on national team selection during the weekend’s Zimbabwe Pool National Qualifiers held at the elegant joint Leisure Centre in Ruwa, Harare.

The Qualifiers saw Zimbabwe Pool Association select teams of men and women, comprising eight players each.

This is in preparation for next year’s games scheduled for Zambia and France.

Among the seasoned campaigners who were knocked out of the Qualifiers were Tendai Mubaiwa, better known as Inspector, Steven Paswani (Mafana), Elliot Chikwepa (Mambo) and Priscilla Chisoro, among others.

Pool Media representative Francis Mukwekwe said the All Africa Pool Association Games are supposed to be in March; hence the association has lined up training programs leading into the African safari.

“We are scheduled to travel to Zambia for the AAPA Games next year in March and then France in October,” Mukwekwe told EnterSportNews.

“Initially, we had Provincial Qualifiers from the affiliated seven provinces, namely Bulawayo, Chitungwiza, Harare, Manicaland, Mashonaland East, Matebeleland South and Midlands. We came up with 64 Men and 32 Women, and they had to battle it out in the National Qualifiers to come up with National Teams of eight Men and 8 Women.”
