Brendan Taylor quits cricket

FORMER Zimbabwe Cricket captain across all the three formats has called time on his cricketing career after 17 years in the Chevrons colours.

The 36-year-old said Monday’s decisive One Day International against Ireland will be his last match for Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe lead the three-match ODI series 1-0 after the second match was washed out before the visitors resumed their chase.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I’m announcing that tomorrow (Monday) is my last game for my beloved country. 17 year’s of extreme highs and extreme lows, and I wouldn’t change it for the world,” Taylor posted on his Facebook page this evening.

“It’s taught me to (be) humble, always to remind myself how lucky I was to be in the position I was in for so long. To wear the badge with pride and leave everything on the field.

“My goal was to always leave the team in a better position as to when I first arrived back in 2004. I hope I have done that.”

The wicketkeeper-batsman paid tribute to several stakeholders who helped achieve so much on the field of play.

“I’m so thankful for the friendships I’ve gained around the world, you will always be with me, and I hope to cross paths again in the near future,” he said.

“To Zimbabwe Cricket, thank you for the opportunity, and I hope I have made our country proud in some small way. To my teammates and coaches past and present. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will never forget you all.

“To the fans back home who have been so loyal to me over the years. I’m eternally grateful. To my friends at home, my parents Debbie Wakefield Taylor my mother in law Gail Meyer Readings and my best mates, my two brother’s who have been with me every step of the way Grant Taylor, Keegan Taylor.
Thank you so much.

“Finally to my wife @tkellyanne and our four beautiful boy’s. You have meant everything to me on this journey, and it wouldn’t have been possible without you—no more airport heartaches. I look forward to our next chapter. I love you all very much.”
