ZIMBABWE Football Association (Zifa) president Felton Kamambo, facing allegations of vote-buying and bribery, is set to travel to South Africa next for a medical procedure.
Kamambo had applied for his case to be postponed to May as his lawyer Tawanda Zhuwarara had other issues to attend to at the High Court.
Today he was seeking the postponement of the trial to allow him to travel across the Limpopo for an operation set for May 6.
However, the prosecution pushed for the matter to be postponed to May 3, arguing that it was unreasonable to set a trial on a date after a supposed medical procedure with an unknown outcome.
Hearing the matter, regional magistrate Bianca Makwande in her ruling, said the trial would continue on May 3.
Kamambo, who is now halfway into his term, has continued to deny the charges levelled against him by Philip Chiyangwa, the complainant whom he beat in a hotly contested election.
The allegations are that in December 2018, Kamambo offered gifts or considerations to the councillors who were to vote in the Zifa congress by sending them money through a mobile money platform.
Through his lawyers, Kamambo has since produced seven statements from the councillors who voted, which stated that the money was compensating them for expenses in transport, food and accommodation they incurred while coming to his campaigns, and not bribes.
In a written statement to the police, the councillors said they were all reimbursed money by all the candidates who participated in the elections except Gilbert Banda.
