Dream Debut For DeMbare New Boy
DYNAMOS Football Club’s new signing Trevor Mavhunga was elated after his debut goal helped Dembare clinch a record 9th Independence Trophy on a day that domestic football returned after a year’s absence.
It did not take long for Mavhunga to announce himself in the blue and white colours when his long-range effort in the 6th minute was fumbled by veteran goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda into his own net.
Dynamos went on to win 2-0, after another blunder by Sibanda resulted in an own goal by Peter Muduwa to give Dynamos early season bragging rights in the battle of Zimbabwe.
Mavhunga who joined Dynamos in February this year from Triangle says it was a dream come true, scoring against Highlanders.
“I’m happy with the goal that I scored, it’s something that I have always been looking forward to,” Mavhunga told EnterSportNews.
“Having scored against Dynamos and CAPS United before, Highlanders was the only team that I was yet to score against and so its indeed a dream come true.”
Mavhunga said he is now working towards building his brand and helping the club win as well.
“From now onwards I’m looking forward to having a successful career, working hard and achieving more, for myself and that of the club,” he said.
Both teams had only one week to prepare for the match as football marks its return on the domestic scene after a year on the terraces due to the coronavirus pandemic and the lack of match fitness could be seen in the second half from the two giants of Zimbabwe football.
The match signalled the return of domestic football which is expected to get into a full crescendo early next month.
The Premier Soccer League proposed to have the elite league return under a cluster competition, which will be hosted in four cities, with teams playing in groups.
